Lead Operator

Job Summary

The Lead Operator is responsible for leading a team of production operators. This person will train existing and new operators, and is expected to communicate with the shift supervisor, Quality department personnel and fellow operators. The Lead Operator is responsible for production data input into the company’s IQMS production software, and for upholding and maintaining all company policies in the Production area to ensure personnel safety and plant cleanliness.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Communicates with the shift supervisor to ensure proper staffing of the production floor and to understand the production schedule
  • Reviews shift status with the oncoming shift team
  • Supervises, schedules and trains operators as part of daily plant operations
  • Maintains a break schedule for all shift operators
  • Performs or delegates necessary operator trainings and certifications
  • Verifies performance of operators during each shift by conducting random production documentation audits
  • Understands production control requirements and production data inputs on the IQMS system
  • Reports scrap and production in IQMS on a daily basis
  • Participates in Quality department monthly meetings
  • Provides the necessary tools for all operators on each shift
  • Participates in and holds team meetings to discuss safety, work, products, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Enforces safety standards on the production floor


  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Minimum one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities listed above
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
  • Basic math skills
  • IQMS or MRP experience is a plus
  • Computer literacy, including Word, Excel and applicable software programs
  • Able to follow detailed directions
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic inspection tools
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel
  • Completes Molding Machine Operations training
  • Completes Paulson Training, including: Basic Injection Molding 1 & 2; Practical Injection Molding 1-5; Statistical Process Control 1 and Plastic Drying Technology Training
  • Willing and able to complete on-the-job training as required
    • Level I (Entry Level)– On-the-job training
    • Level II: Paulson Courses
    • Level III: Written test
