PMT Pilots New Part Conveying Process

IMG_5965As part of a plant floor standardization initiative, PMT implemented a new automated process for containment, sorting and conveying on several injection molding machine cells.

The new systems include under-the-press conveyors and state-of-the-art part separators. The conveyors are programmed to automatically reject start-up shots and any out-of-tolerance parts, ensuring only high-quality parts are packed and sent to our customers. This added layer of reject containment at the press provides a proactive response to any potential quality issues.

The new systems are synced with the molding machine parameters to ensure parts are properly handled. For components that run without sprue-picker robotics, parts and runners can be separated via the new conveying systems. This system also allows for closed-loop material re-use for parts that incorporate re-grind, by conveying the runner to the grinder machine and the part to its box for packing.

The systems are currently implemented in a 10-machine pilot program. Once PMT’s process engineers verify the program’s success, the remaining machines can be outfitted with the new systems. The goal is to incorporate the new conveying systems on all machines by the end of this year, ensuring PMT remains on the cutting edge of technology in our facility.
