Joining more than 1,630 manufacturers across the U.S., PMT opened its doors to highlight the importance of manufacturing to the U.S. economy and to showcase the rewarding, highly skilled jobs available in the industry. This year’s tour was especially exciting, as the company was able to show visitors the sustainability initiatives and operational strategies that led to PMT being named “Manufacturer of the Year” in 2014 by the Manufacturing Leadership Council and Frost & Sullivan.

Over 70 visitors attended PMT’s plant tours this year, including a local high school robotics team, the University of Texas—El Paso chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), members of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, local business owners and representatives from the Texas Manufacturers Assistance Center (TMAC). Sen. Jose Rodriguez (D-TX) also toured the plant on MFG Day, showing his support for local manufacturing.

During the tour, Baxter—PMT’s newest cutting-edge team member—demonstrated how robotics is incorporated into the modern manufacturing facility. Visitors also watched our proprietary automated presses perform production tasks, and saw the results of the molding process in action as a press created a plastic toy robot souvenir.

“I thank all of our visitors for coming out and supporting Manufacturing Day this year,” said Charles A. Sholtis, CEO of PMT. “This event is integral nationally to our industry, and locally to our community. We look forward to hosting our third annual tour for MFG Day in 2015.”

MFG Day gained much national attention this year, not only here in El Paso but on the national stage as well. President Obama designated Oct. 3 National Manufacturing Day, and NPR began a series called “American Made: The New Manufacturing Landscape”, exploring the importance of reviving manufacturing here in the U.S.
