Mold Maker (Class B)

Job Summary

The Mold Maker is a skilled craftsman who cleans, maintains and inspects production injection molds. The Mold Maker works closely with the Engineering and Production departments to perform mold changes and repairs to support the production process.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow work instructions and daily assignments from Tooling Department Supervisor
  • Clean & maintain production injection molds
  • Clean, inspect and prepare new and transfer injection molds
  • Notify Supervisor and/or Engineering Department Manager of any mold/tooling quality concerns
  • Perform insert changes on injection molds
  • Replace damaged and worn ejector pins
  • Perform minor mold repairs by reading blueprints, instructions and sketches, or studying the actual part
  • Must have effective organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and plan work on a daily basis
  • Understand the Molding Department Production Schedule to ensure tools are prepared
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Engineering Manager

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED Certification
  • Equivalent work experience
  • English proficiency in speaking, writing and reading

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of plastic injection molding
  • Must possess the basic hand tools required to perform daily tasks
  • Understanding of tool drawings and piece/part drawings
  • Working knowledge of tool shop practices and knowledge of machinery including lathes, grinders and mills
  • Working knowledge of injection mold hot runner systems
  • Ability to multi-task and to be detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a Team
  • Possess a sense of urgency while performing tasks accurately

Required Paulson Injection Molding Courses (offered in-house):

  • Basic Molding 1 & 2
  • Practical Injection Molding 1 – 5
