Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering department manager, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for new project management, as well as planning and supervising all activities related to the design and build of customer molds & tooling.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Creates conceptual designs for outside tool shops; submits mold specification sheets for all new tools
  • Assists in maintaining project management workbooks
  • Obtains tool estimates from outside tool shops for new molds, coordinates design concept and tool delivery
  • Creates project management timelines for customers
  • Participates in APQP and PPAP processes
  • Coordinates tooling transfers with customers and assists tool room on prioritizations
  • Quotes engineering changes requiring tooling modifications to the customer
  • Consults with the engineering manager to supply information needed to make mold repairs, corrections or revisions
  • Collaborates with the process engineer and/or molding technicians in testing and debugging molds
  • Reviews, approves and releases molds for production readiness
  • Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives
  • Responsible for secondary operation fixture fabrication
  • Troubleshoots mold and tool problems and recommends corrective action
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 10 years’ minimum experience in plastics injection molding & tool making
  • Prior courses or training related to molds, molding and/or automation
  • Basic experience in automation and robotics
  • ISO 9001-proficient
  • CAD-literate
  • Speak, read and write English fluently
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Completion of basic seminar on injection molding machines
  • Completion of SPC seminar
  • Ability to complete Paulson injection molding courses:
    • Basic Injection Molding 1 & 2
    • Practical Injection Molding 1-5
    • Practical Injection Molding Advanced 1-4
    • Optimize Machine Control Settings 1-4
    • Statistical Process Control 1-3
    • Plastic Drying Technology 1-2
    • Efficient Mold Settings 1-2

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive working knowledge of Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes involving injection molding and value-added operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrably strong leadership ability and qualities
  • Proven ability to work within budget and timelines
  • Highly efficient, well-organized, self-motivated and self-directed
  • Outstanding communication & interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks
