Company scores highly in Sustainable Leadership and Operational Leadership categories

EL PASO, Texas – Plastic Molding Technology Inc. has been recognized with two 2014 Manufacturing Leadership Awards (ML Awards), presented by the Manufacturing Leadership Council and Frost & Sullivan. PMT was nominated by IQMS for both awards, and received theSustainability Leadership Award for excellence in its implementation of sustainable practices, as well as anOperational Leadership Award for the company’s exemplary focus on continuous improvement.

The Sustainability Leadership Award recognized PMT’s “Building Value through Sustainability” initiative – a unified set of projects focused on enhancing and expanding PMT’s environmentally friendly practices across all of its operations. The company’s sustainability initiative includes numerous operational and process improvements, as well as the development of proprietary, machine-control technologies designed to create energy savings. The initiative increased enterprise value through higher levels of profitability, resulting in cost savings and the acquisition of new customers who share PMT’s commitment to sustainable practices. Through its sustainability initiatives, the company has reduced annual energy consumption by 1.8 million kilowatt hours.

PMT received an Operational Leadership Award for its “Operational Excellence Through Continuous Improvement” initiative, which has advanced one of the company’s founding values — a relentless focus on continuous improvement. By successfully streamlining processes and identifying waste, PMT has reduced costs, increased efficiency and improved overall productivity. Multimillion-dollar capital investments supporting this initiative included the addition of state-of-the-art equipment and the use of advanced enterprise resource planning (ERP) information systems. PMT was also able to reach its continuous improvement goals through clearly defined processes, rigorous quality controls, hands-on management, ongoing training and a skilled, dedicated workforce.

“We appreciate that our peers recognize and respect our commitment to excellence and to the environment,” said Charles A. Sholtis, Chief Executive Officer and owner of PMT. “These awards are a validation of our corporate values and the commitment of each and every PMT team member. These awards also shine a light on the fact that some of best, innovative U.S. manufacturing is being done in El Paso, Texas, and the U.S./Mexico Borderplex that we serve and proudly call home.”

“While we are honored to receive these awards, we know that never-ending change will bring about other opportunities to improve our operations for the benefit of our customers, our community and all of our stakeholders. We’re in this for the long run and we are going to be relentless in our focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.”
